The National Electrical Contractors Association, founded in 1901 is a national trade association with affiliated chapters. NECA represents, promotes, and advanced the interests of the electrical contracting industry, of all its branches, and of the public it serves. The members are companies, divisions, departments, sectors, groups, and subdivisions whose principal function is electrical contracting.
NECA offers you an opportunity to have a direct say in the electrical industry and it's future through regular meetings held at the chapter, district and national levels.  Subjects discussed may include such areas as Labor Relations, Marketing, Industry Relations, Technical and Training Programs, Codes and Standards, Government Relations and Legislation, and Employee Training.
NECA is an extension of you.  It's that extra employee on your payroll who looks out for your interests.  This could include follow-up on Davis-Bacon, contract compliance, inspection procedures, and/or OSHA regulations.  It could also include representing you in your own community with trade groups, architects, engineers, government, the Business Roundtable, and other business leaders. All this can best be described as an addition to your sales force through visibility and public relations.
NECA offers comprehensive and competitive insurance programs that include dividend paying policies, which have been designed specifically to meet the insurance needs of NECA members.
NECA's Convention/Exposition gives contractors and their key employees the opportunity to attend educational programs, review the newest electrical products and services, and meet with fellow contractors.
Programs are designed so that attendees can get an overall picture of the current electrical market as well as the future markets that will help them stay profitable. Time is also allotted for discussion among attendees on markets and market conditions.
Management education programs meet the needs of electrical contractors who want to remain profitable in a most competitive business. They're based on solid research and delivered professionally in the most cost-effective manner.
Only the most productive and capable managed firms consistently remain profitable through the ups and downs of the erratic construction market. Much of the successful performance of NECA contractors is due to the professional management training provided by NECA.
NECA's Technical and Training Services fill members' educational and informational needs in areas such as estimating, electrical installation, job management practices, and business management.
A prime function in this respect is that NECA represents electrical contractors on all 20 code making panels of the National Electrical Code Committee.  The Code sets basic standards for electrical equipment, material, and methods of installation.
Safety is also a prime concern for NECA.  It's through Technical and Training Services that NECA maintains its membership in the National Safety Council, maintains a liaison relations with the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), provides testimony and comment on the development of OSHA Safety and Health standards as well as on the administration of OSHA law, and generally informs NECA members of the developments and safety practices in the industry.
NECA values highly the long record of construction and responsive labor relations practiced by the national association, its chapters, and its members. NECA's basic policy is that every effort should be made by all parties concerned - the national association, its chapters, its members, supervisory personnel, the IBEW, and local unions - to improve labor-management relations. The goal is to provide the maximum possible productivity per man-hour of labor to meet competition and to promote consumer use of the trained and skilled electrical craftsmen employed by qualified electrical contractors.
NECA has joined with the IBEW to develop the National Labor-Management Cooperation Committee (NLMCC) with the goal of improving the relationship between signatory employers and the IBEW at all levels and exploring ways to work together to become more competitive, to implement programs that increase employment opportunities, and to promote the value of union electrical work.
NECA promotes and supports development of programs and training courses to ensure an adequate supply of technically and professionally qualified craftsmen in all areas of the country and in all types of electrical work. These include expansion of apprenticeship training and continuing education courses for journeymen that prepare them to work with technological advances in this ever-expanding industry.
NECA has long been aware of the importance of effective marketing in the successful operation of an electrical contracting business.  It was the first construction industry  association to establish marketing services for its members. Marketing Services functions to keep members abreast of the many changes in the marketplace and to provide national promotion and member education ensuring NECA contractors expanding opportunities for their services.  Marketing Services projects involve market research, sales training, institutional promotion and inter-industry relations with suppliers and utilities.
